Virtual Munches

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re going to be holding the EhBC munches online instead of in person.

You don’t need to install any software, and it should work on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone. If you have both a computer and a phone, use the computer since it will give you a much better experience (unless your computer is really old).

No camera is required or used. Headphones are strongly encouraged! If you don’t have headphones or earbuds, be sure to turn your speaker volume way down and try to aim your microphone away from the speakers.

Note that if you don’t have a microphone, no one will be able to hear you. However, in that case, feel free to use speakers.

Attending the virtual munch is simple. We’ll be posting a link to the event in the BDSM Ontario and Kinksters of KW groups on Fetlife a few minutes before the munch is scheduled to begin. Just click on the link and it’ll launch the software. Using Chrome or Firefox is strongly recommended. Depending on your system, you may have to allow the app to go through your firewall.

Once it’s launched, click on the big “Enter Room” button at the bottom of the screen.

You’ll be prompted to enter a nickname and choose an avatar. Pick a name just like you would when you fill out a name tag at a real-world munch. You may want to use your Fetlife nickname, but be aware that the system only allows numbers, letters and hyphens (no tildes, underscores, etc). If you don’t have a microphone, add -nomic at the end of your name so people know you’re not just being rude. 🙂

You can use the default avatar or pick one by clicking “Browse Avatars”.

Once you’ve got your name and avatar set, click “Enter on Screen” or “Enter on Phone” (depending on whether you’re on desktop or mobile), then “Next” and grant permission to use your microphone. Then click “Next” again and finally “Enter now”.

Once you’re in the room, you can hold down your left mouse button and use your mouse to look around. To move, you can use either the arrows keys or the letters W, A, S and D. You can also turn by using the Q and E keys. If you find the performance is choppy on your desktop (or laptop) computer, try shrinking your browser window to a smaller size.

If you’re on a mobile device, use a single-finger drag to look around and a “pinch to zoom” gesture to move forward and backward. It’ll be easier to use in landscape mode (turn your phone sideways).

Note that the room can handle up to 25 people. Anyone joining after that will be in an observer mode that lets you see what’s going on but not interact. Alternatively, you can go to one of our overflow rooms (the links will be posted in the event).

And that’s about it. Hope to see you at the virtual munch!
