Munches

Since it first began, EhBC has met for dinner on a regular basis to socialize and to discuss our common interests. Inheriting a term from the Net, we call these get-togethers ‘munches’ (such events have traditionally been called “Burger Munches” since the first ones were held in fast-food restaurants on the west coast).

We meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm in a restaurant in Waterloo, Ontario. We occasionally change restaurants just to keep things interesting.

We encourage people who are joining us for the first time to arrive at 6:45 pm (that way they won’t have to walk into a room full of people who already know each other, and they can get to know a few people first).

There are three reasons why we meet in a public place.

  1. It makes us easy to find.
  2. It gives those who might be interested in joining us a chance to look us over first to make sure we’re not a bunch of strange, scary people (don’t laugh; first-timers can be easily intimidated).
  3. It helps preserve everyone’s anonymity, which is important to many people.

Keep in mind that these munches are just friendly social get-togethers. Everyone wears casual clothing, though if you want to wear something more elaborate nobody will object. People sit around at tables chatting, and some people order food or drinks. There is no formal “protocol” in effect, and everyone behaves just as they would in any other social situation. You may be a submissive, but you are under no obligation to behave submissively to anyone unless you choose to. You may be a Dominant, but you have no authority over people you may meet at the munch. Treat everyone the way you yourself expect to be treated, and you’ll do just fine. Also treat the wait staff courteously, and they’ll do the same for you. For more hints on social etiquette at munches, check out Jay Wiseman’s excellent article.

In the past we’ve held munches at The Circus Room, the Huether, the Fox and Pheasant, Philthy McNasty’s, the Fox and Fiddle, Time Square, the Rum Runner, Ren@21 and East Side Mario’s. Our current munch location is the Pickle Barrel in Conestoga Mall. We meet in the bar area at the front.

Looking forward to seeing you at the munch!
